Life Coaching for Teens
We offer private 1:1 youth mentor coaching services for adolescents and young adults ages 12-19.
How do life coaching and mentoring relate?
A large body of research suggests high quality mentoring supports positive development for high-risk youth in a number of ways. However, for maximum benefit the following factors are necessary:
-
Active guidance (the mentor consistently works to build mentee competencies and facilitate the mentee setting and pursuing personal goals)
-
Advocacy (the mentor identifies mentee needs and fosters the mentee’s self-advocacy)
-
Closeness/emotional connection (a caring relationship between mentor and mentee)
-
Collaborative/developmental orientation (identifying mentee’s interests and strengths, facilitating the mentee’s sense of contribution)
-
Consistency (mentor follow-through and trustworthiness)
-
Longevity (extended duration of relationship)
-
Parent engagement (mentor involves the parent/caregiver in addressing the mentee’s needs and respects the parent/caregiver’s role)
-
Positive role modeling (the mentor sets a positive example for the mentee, demonstrates healthy behaviors, integrity, and prosocial behavior) (OJJDP, 2013)
All of these functions are an integral part of the life coaching process however, science-based life coaching adds the intensive training, certification, structure, tools, professional, and ethical standards that means our high quality mentoring is a professional discipline. I have undergone 60 hours of intensive training, practice, and supervision to be certified followed by continuing education to maintain credential.
